I love Zooey Deschanel

And now she has a band! Ahhh!

It's called She & Him, and it's total happy clappy music. So perfect for her. It reminds me of Feist a little. The music videos are retro and a little strange.

I love her style, and I'm busy watching her new show "New Girl". It's quirky and cute, just like her.

I sound like a super fan, I know, but come on now, can you tell me you don't love her too??

How adorable is that top?!

Cute belt!

Oh So Lovely Vintage

I have just discovered Oh So Lovely Vintage and I am totally in love!

Erin and Stef are two amazing ladies who run a vintage store out of an adorable 1950's caravan. Their blog is an inspiring, colourful site, with posts on vintage clothes, furniture, recipes, fashion and all things Canadian.

I love vintage anything and I when I stumbled upon their blog, I was stuck (in the best way) for hours. Definitely going onto my bookmarks list.

They have two weekly posts: Sixties Sundays - where they blog about anything Sixties, and Hues-day Tuesdays - where they post pics in their hue of the day. It is so original and such a unique concept.

Here are some photos (all taken from their blog ) I take no credit for them!

Til my next post darlings...
Kisses!

Beachy Peach

Today I went to the beach and it was magical! Cape Town is known for it's freezing water but today was cold, yet not toe-numbing. Refreshing. Even grumpy Boyfriend got a tan... Well, more of a burn. Tee hee.

Reminds me of the days when we used to wake up super early and stay on the beach til it was dark. Surfing, swimming, sleeping, ice cream all over our faces. There's no better way to grow up.

All I wanna do is move to Long Beach, California and beach it up all day, rollerblade, ride my bike and see cool bands at night. Can you say beach party? Oh, and not work.

Pomplamoose

Treat feast

Pomplamoose make cool videos. A great audio/visual experience. Watch!

Merry Kreesmas!

Darling people, I cannot tell you how much I love Christmas. So so SO MUCH! I've been having the out-of-breath-and-sparkly-eyed look for about two weeks now.

Boyfriend and I decorated the apartment on the 1st already - like every year.

Went Christmas shopping on Wednesday and bought so many presents.. SO MANY.

We are busy cooking our amazing gammon and veggies right now, and I baked a pecan nut pie. Yummy!

I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday - remember it's all about the love. This is why Christmas is so special to me. Boyfriend and I always spend the 24th wrapping presents, watching cuddly Christmas movies and  preparing our Christmas feast, then stay up til midnight to open our presents with cookies and milk.

Special times

Kisses!!!

Even Betsy got some sparkle

LEGEN .... DARY!

Who doesn't love How I met Your Mother? I've been watching so much of it lately, it keeps making me LOL.

Here's some of my favourite quotes:

Barney: I'm teaching Ted how to live. I'm like Yoda, only instead of little and green, I'm awesome and wear suits. I'm Broda, and tonight, you're going to use the force to get any girl in here.

Ted: Okay, I admit it, Strawberry was a mistake, but how could I have known that going in?

All: Her name was Strawberry.

Ted: Well, Amanda is going to make Lily a cake, she’s a chef! We met when I was at a restaurant last week and I sent some soup back. Luckily she’s got such pretty hair I didn’t mind eating a little bit of it.

Amanda: They call me “The Shedder” at work.

Lily: …I’m so glad you’re making my birthday cake!

So cheesey
Marshall: Two months. My balls were bleu, bleu!!!

Best:

Barney: "Dude, ditch Tiffany and join the Barnacle in the Pharma Girl freeforall. Side effects may include: loss of clothing, rug burns, shortness of breath and sore abdominals the next morning. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS UP!"

Marshall and Lily are the best. Actually Jason Segel is one of my favourite actors; Freaks and Geeks? Holler!

I've just finished season three - it's so nineties. I love watching my favourite shows from the beginning to end - lol - who remembers SJP as Carrie in the Sex and the City in that white tutu.. Or Jennifer Aniston as Rachel in Friends as the cute little waitress, before she went all executive
The Rachel. They actually named
a hairstyle after her. Can you believe it!

It Sucks to be Broke at Christmas!

I checked my bank balance the other day. It was a sad little balance. Everytime I buy something I think to myself, "There goes Markie's Christmas presents..."

And by something, I mean the necessities. Electricity, milk, etc. Blegh.

But I do have lots of savings money - just not feeling cool to dip into it.

So for those of you who are feeling toight over Christmas, here's some cool and *inexpensive* gift ideas.

*Bake lots of gingerbread cookies in Chrismassy shapes, and put them into cute little boxes.

*Buy online - it's always cheaper than at the shop. I have just discovered www.takealot.com - awesome - and you don't even need a credit card!
*Buy some really nice homemade soaps and arrange them in a cute facecloth, at Clicks they have owl sets!
*Or just buy all the owl products at Clicks and give your aunty a hug and say "I'm your present!"
*A cute salad bowl or baking pan and a notebook containing yummy recipes to be made in the gift
*Visit the second hand book store - Mabu Vinyl has books for under R40, and the every Saturday there is a second hand book stall outside of Checkers on Kloof street.
*Wine - it's especially cheap here in Cape Town, fifty bucks can get you some pure yummyness!
*A disposable camera - so fun!
*Nuts and biltong for dad

My Mountain's on Fiyah!

Omg! Yesterday there was a fire in the mountain, or on a house at the base of the mountain. So much smoke. Shit - imagine coming home from work to a charred mess where your home used to be. I'd die. I'm insured. Yay?

These are some pics I snapped - there is a reservoir just 2 minutes walk from my house, where helicopters were transporting water from. It was quite exciting, and very windy. I just hope the house was not damaged too much.
Love vibes to those poor peeps :(

Blog Love!

I just did a spring clean in our apartment - phew, sweaty work - and have been looking for inspiration for storage space and decor ideas. I have a lot of space in my apartment, but not much storage space. I also have SO MUCH STUFF.

I stumbled upon (teehee) some really awesome websites and blogs...

Apartment Therapy - an American based design site. Search for tiny apartments. What they do with a 30m2 apartment blows me away. Or SmallCool - wow, amazing and inspiring!

Tiny-Ass Apartment
Tiny-Ass Apartment - So inspiring. AND funny :D Perfect for the girl on a budget, with huge ideas. I love her ideas, and it's awesome how big her site has become. It's a real meet and greet kinda blog. Something like I hope this to become.

Things I Plan to Implement in my Apartment:
Handbag hanger made from showercurtain rings

Okay, I would never do this, I would probably make such a mess
outta this. Ooh.. What's that book? *tumbling down on my head*

I actually just want a fireplace to do weird things to

So doing this for MorkRock's PC wires

Bedsets inside pillowcases - Genius!

Scarf holder - now to find a hanger with holes in!

Cocoa Oola

SoOoooOoo, as I mentioned previously.. We went to Cocoa Oola in Kloof on the weekend. It's pretty new and I was under the impression that it was a single restaurant. But it's actually part of a small group.

Their description:

The Cocoa Group started trading in 2005 with the aim of being the first choice venue for quality food and drink in the relaxed dining segment. We place a strong emphasis on consistency and quality, ensuring that the Cocoa's are a popular choice amongst consumers for Wraps, Salads, Burgers, Pastas, Baked goods, Coffees and Iced Crushes.

And that it sure does. The food was sooo yummy. SO YUMMY! I was really impressed with the menu choices, very varied and  as Mork would say "something for the plainsman" - the usual cheese and tomato something, but also something for the more adventurous eater.

I was so happy to get the chocolatiest little biscuit with my coffee. Like a Romany Cream, but better.

Can't wait to go back.

My amazeballs croissant. Ooh yummy

Word of the Week

The act of not wearing a bra under a shirt. Analogous to freeballing, which is not wearing underwear for men.

Roxanne is not wearing a bra under her shirt, therefore, she is freeboobing.

Sunday Funday!

hey homies! What did you do this weekend?

I had a fabulous time - went for lunch at Cocoa Wah Wah in Kloof street* and also went to Music in the Park, at De Waal Park

Sunday was sticky hot, but so amazing. I think the whole of Cape Town had a mini sungasm. There were some creepy ladies playing electric violin  at De Waal Park on Sunday, I didn't realise it was Music in the Park when I went.. Any how the weather was fab, so there were lots of people and kids (bleh) and sooo many doggies everywhere. It was a cool vibe for sure. It gave me the idea to have a Christmas Picnic there Sunday after next, gonna invite some friendies and make merry in the sun. Yay!
